I wanna get drunk.
And I can't because of my medications. Trump is in power now. This nation is fucked. It was nice knowing you, my friends here and in other countries. Current Mood: so gods-damn depressed. | | Sunday, December 4th, 2016 | | 12:08 am |
Gods damn it! http://postcardsfromspace.tumblr.com/post/153890758698/soundssimpleright-thisiseverydayracismOkay, this has gone way too fuckin' far. North Dakota's government is trying to starve out the Standing Rock protesters by blocking supply trucks, as well as levering fines against everyone involved. Which fuckin' century is it? WHY ARE WE REGRESSING SO FAR?! WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ABOVE THIS SHIT! I just.... The US was never the best nation in the world, but when did it become the worst in all possible ways? [face in hands, shrinking down very small] I'm scared of where this place is going. I'm really, really scared, and I'm sad because I DON'T KNOW HOW I COULD HELP MAKE IT BETTER. It's only gonna get worse from here. The apocalypse is nigh, everyone, and there are no heroes left. | | Saturday, November 12th, 2016 | | 11:32 pm |
Gear up, everyone.
It's time to make Trump regret he ever ran for President on a lark. (I'm not exaggerating. He did it as a joke, then got serious.) Problem is, I don't know how to fight back. It'd be so much easier if this fight was like those in sentai or tokusatsu shows, where I could just send out a psychic call and recruit people with attitude. But we still have to let the world know this is unacceptable. If you don't have a taser, pepper spray, or self-defense classes, I suggest you invest in one of those options, or a combination of 'em. Hate crimes and harassment against women are already escalating, and Trump isn't even in office yet. Do whatever it takes to protect yourself and others. However, when we aim to misbehave, we have to do it right. So if you go out and protest, or write angry e-mails to the Senate and Congress or mayors to tell them to make sure Trump can't do anything stupid, or even arm yourselves for fear of your safety, we need to do it civilly and legally, similar to how Quakers have used civil disobedience. I say this because even though it's always been us versus them, the stakes have gotten even higher, and we need to get our message out that bigotry, rape, and other hateful things are unacceptable in a way that doesn't get us in trouble. We can't lower our voices, but we can still strengthen our arguments. Be loud, but be safe, too. We all need to band together and get involved. If you're afraid, that's okay. I'm scared too. But I'm also angry. And somehow, some way, I WILL have your back. You're my friends. My family. My brethren. My pack. We can do this. And if we have to endure four years of Trump, he has to endure four years of us. I bet it'll give him migraines. | | Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 | | 12:03 pm |
How are we going to survive?
I'm so angry, and sad. I don't know what to do because there may be nothing I can do. All I can do is give condolences and keep going through life. Hate has won. And on January 20, 12:00 pm, the guillotine will fall. Was it worth it, America? Current Mood: defeated. | | Monday, April 18th, 2016 | | 12:35 pm |
Yikes.
Today I learned Hawaii's gonna lose more than one thousand, six hundred teachers to retirement at the end of the year. (waits for everyone to pick their jaws off the floor) Yup. It's right here: http://www.dose.com/news/28328/Unemployed-People-Hawaii-Is-Literally-Begging-You-To-Go-Work-ThereAs the article says, the islands are reaching out to big cities in the mainland for teachers, especially math, science, and special education for all grades. Here's the kicker: You DON'T need to be certified to teach on the off chance you could do this. The average teacher's salary out there is $54k. I'm starting to get tempted myself. | | Monday, January 6th, 2014 | | 11:52 pm |
As seen in a newspaper: "The U.S. declared war on drugs and more drugs came into our country. We declared war on terrorism and more terrorism became prevalent in our country. Maybe we should declare war on jobs and money and see what happens.
JUST SAYING" I can't say I disagree. | | Thursday, April 4th, 2013 | | 12:50 pm |

To the members of the Crazy Ronin Writers Society I've lost touch with, and who might somehow miraculously stumble upon this: You are the greatest. You helped me be not so lonely out there in the Nineties. I miss you, and I hope you're all doing fantastically. ^n_n^ | | Monday, April 9th, 2012 | | 11:00 am |

http://www.badassoftheweek.com/vernonbaker.htmlFor the link-phobic, this is the part that hit me the hardest: "Eventually, many years after the war ended, some enterprising, moderately-observant human being suddenly noticed that while African-American soldiers received the nation's highest award for military valor – the Medal of Honor – in every single damn war since the American Civil War, out of the 433 Medals of Honor awarded for action during WWII, the nation's highest award for valor was not issued to any of the 1.2 million black soldiers who fought and risked their lives for their country in the global struggle against totalitarian Fascism. "It wasn't until 1993 that the Army ran a full investigation into this ridiculous discrepancy, and decided to review many of the Medal of Honor recommendations that had been passed over during the war. So, finally, in 1997, fifty-two years after the destruction of Nazi Germany and the fall of the Japanese Empire, the U.S. Army officially upgraded the Distinguished Services Crosses of seven African-American war heroes to full-fledged Medals of Honor. "Vernon J. Baker was the only man still alive to receive the award in person." That last line damn near made me cry. So many gone. War and old age are hell, folks. | | Friday, January 20th, 2012 | | 7:39 pm |

http://theljstaff.livejournal.com/4004.htmlInformation on the Internet Blackout, and sites where you can find more information, or contact your Senator and Congress-person. This is a big issue, everyone. Even if you can't say something to the folks in charge, you should know what's happening. Just don't read the LJ comments. | | Thursday, January 12th, 2012 | | 6:37 pm |

I got two fortune cookies with dinner tonight. One fortune says "Keep on keeping on," and the other says "It's not the end yet. Let's stay with it." That was the plan. ^n_n^ So everyone, let's just stick together and keep goin'. | | Wednesday, December 28th, 2011 | | 3:08 pm |

Author Anne McCaffrey dead at eighty-five.
I would love to say something profound. I'd love to say how much I enjoyed Mrs. McCaffrey's work. I would especially love to say what a grand person Mrs. McCaffrey was, despite never knowing her. But all I can come up with is " FUCK." I once sent Mrs. McCaffrey a pendant I made, with a little note. "'For those with wings, fly to your dreams.' We have, with you." Who will we fly with now? Edit: PS: My boss' dog Molly died last Friday, too. Figures. Current Mood: crushed | | Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 | | 2:39 pm |

Mississippi Personhood Amendment (as seen on Kaidan's LJ)
Originally posted by gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood AmendmentOkay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media. Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status. Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing. Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states. What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it. The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute. So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it. If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it. What to do? - Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it. - If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link. - You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this. - Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness. |
